Web development services

Professional. Experienced. Advanced. Great value.

Take your website to the next level. Or launch a successful new website.

I built my first website in 1993 and have ever since been heavily involved in web development and everything that comes with it (SEO, paid ads, social media, etc.)

Thankfully my software development skills don’t limit me to only building basic websites, so some of the projects I have worked on have become massive.

Web development can be incredibly time-consuming, basically a full-time job over many months or years. While I am not totally closed off to the idea of working on such a project I have to be realistic and take my current workload into account, which essentially leaves me with the following scope for web development projects. If you are looking for a technical co-founder we’d likely have to talk beyond the scope presented on this page.

Squarespace development

I have been building Squarespace sites for over 10 years and still think their system is so good that custom website development from scratch is a thing of the past for me, and should be for you too. The baked-in search engine friendliness is a huge bonus. As a Squarespace “circle member” I also enjoy much longer trial periods for development and early access to features that have not been released to other Squarespace users yet.

Squarespace 7.0 has a feature called “developer mode” which I am very familiar with and use a lot. This mode essentially removes all limitations their standard website editor has. Squarespace 7.1 has other options available to us.

I’d be proud to develop your new Squarespace website or help maintain or improve your existing website.

Shopify development

As with Squarespace, I have been developing Shopify stores/websites for many (10+) years and cannot recommend their system highly enough. As Shopify partner, I get advantages you will benefit from. Shopify has an underlying code system programmed in a language called Liquid. I have been programming with Liquid for 10+ years so I can do ANYTHING with Shopify.

Please get in touch if you are planning on creating a new website with Shopify. I will be able to help you understand if Shopify is the right choice for you and then develop your store with you.

If you already operate a Shopify site I can help you implement the features you were always dreaming of but could not get to work.

Pricing

All my pricing is open and transparent, I can be flexible, and always will strive to provide exceptional value! All my clients consider my services to be great value for money.

Note: I cannot recommend systems like WordPress, Magento, Wix, Weebly, etc. and therefore do not offer web development services for them.

Recent web development examples

Here are some examples of web development work I have done with Squarespace and Shopify in 2020 and 2021 (yes, this list is that fresh). Also, I welcome you contacting any of these websites and enquiring about my services - all my clients are very happy. (The new Absolute Action site launches in January 2021).

HTML, CSS, JavaScript development.

If you need someone to create or maintain code on your existing website, I’d be happy to help. I have very many years of experience developing with HTML, CSS and JavaScript (in the most up-to-date versions) as well as related frameworks and libraries like JQuery, Modernizr, SCSS/Sass for example.

Integration of third-party functionality like Google Analytics (with conversion tracking), Google Tag Manager, Google Ads conversion tracking, Google Optimize setup, Facebook pixel setup, and many more are also tasks I can easily help you with.

I don’t think there are many things that cannot be done with HTML, CSS and JavaScript to improve your website.

Site migration due to problems

Having your own, 100% control, bespoke shopping system has its advantages, namely, you can do whatever you like. However, you will spend a lot of time, wasted time, on basics, like payment integrations, updates (to the system and programming language involved), etc. I have seen examples of perfectly good stores being hacked and never recovering their visibility, or companies using unnatural backlinks to boost their rankings, getting penalised, and despite all changes never getting back to where they were.

Here are two cases where something similar happened. In case 1 the WordPress/WooCommerce system got hacked and a transition to Shopify lost most of the site’s visibility, and in case 2 the penalty Google applied was never recovered from, even after the company went out out business and a new company took over the site and converted it to Shopify.

In case 1 the company owner didn’t know how exposed he/she was, in case 2 the company owner actually caused the problem by trying to trick Google and never did what was needed to fully recover, likely the new owners are not aware of what is actually causing their low visibility and therefore cannot or will not be able to fix it.

WordPress hack leading to a major drop in visibility, showing how even after moving to Shopify it will take a lot of work to recover. Be proactive! Get OFF WordPress asap.

Google’s penalties require very extreme measures to recover from. Moving to Shopify is not enough, you need expert advice on how to regain your market share effectively. This is an example of a website owner trying to recover from a Google penalty without professional help.

This kind of migration, to Shopify, requires even in the best of cases a lot of experience and expertise, please let me know if you are about to embark on such a transition and I will be happy to help.

While this chapter focuses on migrations to Shopify, similar aspects apply to a Squarespace migration, see below for more.

Some more examples.

Here are a couple of examples of websites I have recently developed or enhanced:

WordPress to Shopify or WordPress to Squarespace migration.

I have recently been getting an increasing amount of request to move websites from WordPress to Squarespace or Shopify. WordPress is constantly out of date requiring frequent updates, the same counts for PHP (the programming language behind WordPress). This leads to security issues with sites being hacked, as well as the loss of functionality because the typical plethora of plugins doesn’t work well with newer versions of WordPress or PHP.

Businesses need ways to speed up their sites, reduce security vulnerabilities, eliminate the need for many plugins (with compatibility issues) to work. Also, websites need to be future-proof and more easily maintainable.

This is driving demand for migrations to standardised systems like Shopify and Squarespace. If you are considering a move from WordPress to Shopify or Squarespace, please get in touch with me to get expert advice and/or development skills to make such a migration as smooth as possible.

Wix or Artlogic to Shopify or Squarespace migration.

Wix was always horrible for SEO and user experience (for example Wix thinks my iPad Pro is a phone and presents a very poor web experience on an incredibly powerful device with huge screen resolution), and Artlogic is extremely expensive for what it offers, which is quite limited and easily trumped by Squarespace or Shopify. If you are facing this challenge and want to move to a better web platform, please contact me.

London + worldwide.

I am based in London but that should not prevent us from working together if you are anywhere else in the World. Zoom, Facetime, Google Meet, Facebook Messenger, you name it, I am available on all video call platforms, so communication “in person” is quite easy nowadays. I’d love to help you fulfil your website dreams wherever you are.
